The weather in Blacksburg has been (as usual) bat-shit crazy.
I'm getting sick. The coughing has turned to an aching in my right elbow.
That means it's... RECRUITMENT SEASON.
This level of excitement directed at decorating your house, wearing heels 15 hours a day, not drinking for over two weeks, avoiding restaurants that served alcohol after 9 PM, and speed dating with girls instead of crashing weddings. Oh yes.
Call me crazy, but I adored sorority recruitment. I didn't mind singing our door songs 3000 times before lunch, or 3 AM trips to the Wal-Mart in Christiansburg, or the bruises on your legs from practicing said door songs. I lived for Recruitment in college. Every year brought a new crop of women who wanted to wear my letters, be my friends, and call me sister. Clearly, I sucked at recruiting because exactly zero of the girls I preffed (the last night) pledged Alpha Gam.
And I miss it. I recently discovered Sorority Please on Pinterest, and I have spent hours shamelessly poring over t-shirt ideas, recruitment outfits, and every single pin they have to offer. Here in North Carolina, I have exactly three members of my now-defunct chapter (hi, Manisha!). I don't see them nearly enough, and let's not even talk about the rest of my sisters. I miss my littles in Virginia and in California. I miss my grandlittle in London. I miss snuggling with my roomie and our across-the-hall neighbor in our love nest (our nickname for our twin beds that we pushed together) and watching "River Monsters." I miss our post-recruitment rage parties. I miss wearing letters every day and our sisterhood dinners at D2 full of sweet potato fries and yellow cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles.
I'm an advisor for our chapter at UNCW and, thanks to the low bar set at my chapter, not the worst advisor around. It's just hard to drive four hours to Wilmington and back every few weeks. Hopefully, I can step up my game and become an advisor at our new chapter at South Carolina.
Anyone want to go back to college? What do y'all miss?
