Cooking fails

This year, I've challenged myself to try a new recipe each week. Generally, I can through some ingredients together and have a somewhat decent (with room for improvement) dish. My past few attempts have been rather lackluster.

Pear struesel with cider glaze: the pears were a bit overripe and really soft. The pastry got really soggy and kind of fell apart at the seam.

Smore bars: sadly, the marshmallows didn't stick to the graham cracker crust very well, so the bars were crumbly and sad.

Smore cupcakes (see a trend?): I used a baking kit and somehow made it incorrectly. The cupcakes were flat, and the marshmallow icing just tasted kind of funny.

Stuffed peppers: the filling was rather tasty, but I didn't bake the peppers long enough. They were a bit too crunchy.

Eventually, I will make something that will be blog worthy. What dishes didn't live up to your expectations?

  1. Found you through Jen over at Adventures of Our Army Life and thought I'd come read this post :) Gotta love cooking fails.

I have a great recipe for "Unstuffed Stuffed Peppers" if you want to try it. Super easy! Cook the hamburger with diced peppers (various colors or just green). Combine the meat/pepper combo with 2 cups (or so) of cooked rice, one jar of spaghetti sauce, and a few cups of shredded cheese. Put into a 9x13 dish, top with more cheese and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. You get the taste of stuffed peppers without the hassle - and it's hard to screw it up ;)
